Approve and authorize the Chair to sign third amendment to Agreement No. 19-188, otherwise known as State Agreement No. 19-10209, with the California Department of Public Health to increase base funding by $12,812 to provide services under the Women, Infants, and Children Program for Federal Fiscal Years 19/20 through 21/22 and add $22,560 to provide services under the Books for Kids Program for State Fiscal Year 21/22, for a new maximum amount of $4,136,902. Recommended Action

Reason for Recommended Action/Background
The Women, Infants, and Children (“WIC”) Division of California Department of Public Health (“CDPH”) administers funds provided by the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service for the operation of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC Program.  Under the WIC Program, the Health and Human Services Agency (“HHSA”) Community Health (“CH”) Branch provides services to improve the health of eligible participants in the County by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and other social services.
 
This amendment provides an additional $12,812 in base funding to better support the WIC Program and allow services to continue. In addition, it provides $22,560 for the Books to Kids Program, a program that provides books for WIC participants 0-5 years old. Staff recommends approval of this amendment for the County to receive these funds.

This Amendment adds $12,812 in base funds to the Agreement to be used during the Federal Fiscal Years 20/21 and 21/22, or October 1, 2020 through September 30, 2022 and adds $22,560 for the Books for Kids Program to be used during State Fiscal Year 21/22, or July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022, for a new maximum of $4,136,902.
