A representative of the Houston Galveston Subsidence District will present on past, current and future activities of the District and recent subsidence data in the region.
A recent report published in the peer-reviewed journal Remote Sensing links local fault movement and subsidence to groundwater withdrawals in Montgomery County. The article, "Identify and Monitor Growth Faulting Using InSAR over Northern Greater Houston, Texas, USA," details research co-funded by NASA and SMU and conducted by the Southern Methodist University Roy M. Huffington Department of Earth Sciences confirming that excessive groundwater production in Montgomery County, including in the Jasper aquifer, is resulting in water-level declines, subsidence, and fault movement.
The Woodlands Township has no authority over drainage, water, water distribution or water use fees. SJRA, The Woodlands Joint Powers Agency, the Municipal Utility Districts that serve the community for these services, and the Houston-Galveston County Subsidence District are each governmental entities separate from the Township.
Board to determine action.
