Receive, consider and act upon Resolution 007-19 regarding House Bill 2571, designating a portion of Interstate 45 as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway;
Texas House Bill 2571 (H.B. 2571) would designate a portion of Interstate 45 in Montgomery County as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway. The bill was introduced on February 27, 2019, by State Representatives Steve Toth and Will Metcalf and is also sponsored by State Senator Brandon Creighton. The bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 139 Yeas and 0 Nays on April 26, 2019.
H.B. 2571 amends Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Texas Transportation Code, to designate the portion of Interstate Highway 45 in Montgomery County between its intersection with State Highway 242 and the Montgomery-Harris county line as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway. The bill requires the Texas Department of Transportation, subject to a grant or donation of funds, to design and construct markers indicating the designation as the George P. Mitchell Memorial Highway and any other appropriate information and to erect a marker at each end of the highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
