The City of Pacific Grove has been approached by the Praske Family, Dennis and Kathy, regarding a potential plan to refresh Chase Park. Chase Park is divided into two parcels, one parcel is adjacent to the Sally Griffin Center and the Vista Point Apartments, and the other Parcel is at the intersection of 17th and Ocean View, on the east side above the main Lovers Point parking lot. The park serves as a connection route from the Sally Griffin Center and the apartments to the recreation trail and Lovers Point.
The park on the east side of Ocean View is where the Praskes intend to volunteer their time to do this maintenance project for the City. The project will consist of the removal of weeds and the trimming or removal of the aged plants. The soil, where any replanting will occur, will have the soil amended and will be replanted with 1 and 5 gallon native plants, using a similar plant palette as we used for the Coastal Access Project. A weed fabric blockers will be placed on the ground with bark that will match the new Lovers Point Coastal Access Project. After the installation of the bark, granite rocks will be placed throughout the park, new memorial benches will be installed and the walkways will have new decomposed granite placed along the paths that meander through the site. A dry creek bed is being proposed, though layout will have to be confirmed in the field and this item may be omitted. There will be no ground disturbance except the digging of the footings for the memorial benches. All work will occur above ground.
The work is planned to be completed by a group of volunteers that is being compiled by the Praskes and the Praskes intend to retain the services of a landscaping firm to assist. These volunteers will complete the necessary paperwork through the volunteer program prior to starting any work. Additionally, City staff has been communicating with the Praskes since the conception of the project, and will be assisting with placement of boulders, debris haul off bench installation and other small tasks.
