Receive report.
At a time when good news is hard to come by, we can be grateful that funding important transportation projects in Monterey County is continuing, thanks to the voters’ wisdom in approving Measure X, along with prudent estimates of the revenue it would generate. Measure X enables us as a “self-help” county to leverage those local funds to secure additional State funding, as with the Imjin Road project, a major segment of FORTAG, and major safety and improvements at Highway 156 and Castroville Boulevard.
I am also pleased with the Board’s decision to include support for our Point Pinos Trail among the projects selected for funding under the competitive Regional Surface Transportation Program. Notice that, although the largest amount is for a road project, the other seven projects are all focused on pedestrian and bicycle travel, complete streets and safe routes to school. This would have been unheard of when I first served as the TAMC representative 25 years ago.
