RECOMMENDATION
Hold a second reading of an ordinance to create a Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and authorize publication of a summary approved by the City Attorney.
DISCUSSION
On January 20, 2021, the City Council held an additional concept review and discussion regarding the Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The City Council requested “buy in” from staff and directed the City Attorney’s office to prepare an ordinance to create a “Task Force on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” as a temporary body that, if warranted,
could ultimately become a permanent group.

If approved by City Council and after the second read, the City Clerk would move forward with a call for applicants and follow the same process that is already in place for the City of Pacific Grove’s Boards, Committees, and Commissions

Section 2 of the attached draft ordinance clearly defines the Task Force Creation regarding: membership, purpose, terms designated, removal of members, selection of officers, Brown Act compliance, and the powers and duties.
