FY2021 OVAG Grant Contract
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Ratify the execution of a grant contract with the Office of the Attorney General - Texas for the FY2021 Other Victim Assistance Grant (OVAG).
The purpose of the Other Victim Assistance Grant (OVAG), made available through the Office of the Attorney General – Texas, is to provide funds, using a competitive allocation method, to programs to address the unmet needs of victims by maintaining or increasing their access to quality services.
On September 25, 2019, the Commissioners Court ratified the execution of a grant contract for the County’s first OVAG grant for $42,000 for the hiring of two (2) part-time victim restitution analysts to assist victims with the crime victims compensation fund applications, process restitution requests for victims directly, track and report restitution requested. The grant budget included the salary and benefits for these positions, as well as travel/training and supplies. There is no match required.
This particular grant does not require the County to reapply. The Office of the Attorney General reviews each grant’s progress and decides whether to continue funding for the next fiscal year. Nueces County recently was notified of continued funding. The new grant period is from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021 and will continue to fund the two (2) part-time positions, travel/training, and supplies for a total of $42,000.
