TSLAC Library CARES Act Cycle 1 Contract
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Ratify the execution of a grant contract with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) for the TSLAC Cares Act - Cycle 1 grant program.
On May 27, 2020, the Commissioners Court ratified the submission of a grant application to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) for funds available through their CARES Act program.
The TSLAC CARES Grant Program funds community needs identified by Texas libraries in areas of digital access and inclusion to include programs, training, and tools necessary to increase community access to vital digital technologies and services. Additionally, funds may be utilized for library initiatives that support prevention, preparation, and response to the COVID-19 emergency. This reimbursement grant program will fund operating expenditures such as library supplies and materials, technology, furniture, and contractual services. All grant expenses must be designed to respond directly to the COVID-19 emergency.
The Keach Family Library and the Bishop Branch Library have been awarded $49,671 in Cycle 1 for the “TECH2GO” Program that will provide internet access to families and households in the rural areas that are lacking these services. The funds will be used to purchase hotspots, iPads, laptops, Envisionware 6 Tablet Station, increase the internet connection and provide patrons a better external Wi-Fi connection for both libraries. There is no cash match for this grant. The grant period will run retroactively to April 21, 2020 and end on August 31, 2021.
The Commissioners Court received the Official Award Notification on August 12, 2020. This item ratifies the County Judge’s execution of the grant contract documents.
