Submitted By: Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Ratify the acceptance of a grant award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance for the Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program.
The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding (CESF) Program will provide funding to assist eligible states, local units of government, and tribes in preventing, preparing for, and responding to the coronavirus.  The CESF Program is authorized by Division B of H.R. 748, Pub. L. No. 116136 (Emergency Appropriations for Coronavirus Health Response and Agency Operations); 28 U.S.C. 530C.
Funds awarded under the CESF Program must be utilized to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus. Allowable projects and purchases include, but are not limited to, overtime, equipment (including law enforcement and medical personal protective equipment), hiring, supplies (such as gloves, masks, sanitizer), training, travel expenses (particularly related to the distribution of resources to the most impacted areas), and addressing the medical needs of inmates.
On April 8, 2020, the Commissioners Court authorized the submission of an application for $58,008, which is the County’s predetermined allocation.  There is no match required for this program.  The project period is retroactive to January 20, 2020 and will reimburse the County for approximately 83 iPads that were purchased to be used for remote court hearings for district judges, court managers, district attorney staff, court reporters, district clerk staff, and other key staff for civil and criminal trials.
