CARES Act Help Americans Vote Act Grant Award
Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Adopt a resolution authorizing the execution of a Notice of Grant Award with the Texas Secretary of State for the 2020 Help America Vote Act (HAVA) CARES Act Sub-grant to Texas Counties.
On March 27, 2020, President Donald J. Trump signed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) into law. The Act includes $400 million in new Help America Vote Act (HAVA) emergency funds, made available to states to prevent, prepare for, and respond to the coronavirus for the 2020 federal election cycle. This supplemental appropriation funding, distributed by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), will provide states with additional resources to protect the 2020 elections from the effects of the novel coronavirus.
Texas received a total of $24,546,840 in federal funds. The Secretary of State has elected to sub-grant all of the funds to Texas counties. Accordingly, a grant award notice has been sent to each county judge via DocuSign.
Nueces County has been allocated $315,104.43, not including the required match of $63,020.89. The grant period will run retroactively from March 28, 2020 to November 30, 2020. Prior to the execution of the Notice of Grant Award, the Commissioners Court must pass a resolution authorizing its execution by the County Judge.
