Ratify FY2020 Opioid Antagonist Grant Award

Ratify the acceptance of a grant award from the Office of the Governor, Criminal Justice Division, for the FY2020 Opioid Antagonist Grant Program.
The Office of the Governor, Public Safety Office, and Criminal Justice Division (CJD) recently announced funding availability under their FY2020 Opioid Antagonist Grant Program. State funds for these projects are authorized under Article IX, Section 18.83 of the Texas General Appropriations Act. All awards are subject to the availability of appropriated funds and any modifications or additional requirements that may be imposed by law.
On November 20, 2019, the Commissioners Court adopted a resolution authorizing the submission of a grant application for the FY2020 Opioid Antagonist Grant Program. On January 21, 2020, the County was notified that the grant application was approved. These funds will be used to equip 75 first-line officers with Narcan (or similar drug) so that they can immediately treat persons suffering from an apparent opioid-related drug overdose. The County law enforcement offices that chose to participate in this particular grant program is the Sheriff’s Office (45), Constable Precinct 1 (10), Constable Precinct 2 (9), Constable Precinct 3 (7), and the District Attorney’s Office (4).
The grant award amount is $9,375.00 with no match required. The grant will begin on 03/01/2020 and expire on 08/31/2020. The County will partner with the City/County Health Department for the purchase of the Narcan (or similar drug).
