Accept Sea Grant Program award for Mustang & Padre Island Tide Survey
Submitted By: Maria Medrano, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Discuss and consider acceptance of a grant award from the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Program for the Mustang and North Padre Island Tide Survey project.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Coastal Storms program in collaboration with the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Programs announced that they were seeking coastal communities to participate in climate adaptation projects that will serve as local examples for other Gulf communities. The purpose of the available funds is to assist communities in their effort to plan for sea level rise and climate change.
On November 20, 2013, the Commissioners Court ratified the submission of a grant application for this funding opportunity. The project was titled “Assessing Sea Level Rise Through a Mustang and North Padre Island Mean High and Mean Low Tide Survey.”

On January 8, 2014, the County was informed of the application’s approval and selection for funding. The grant totals $33,750 and does not require a cash match.
