Grant application for Dougherty Foundation
Submitted By: Natalie Eckstrom, Grants Department
Department: Grants Department

Ratify the submission of an application to the Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation for the Books and Blocks @ the Library program.
The Dudley T. Dougherty Foundation, "A Foundation for All", was established in 2002. It was begun in order to give a clear voice for those who wish to be a part of the many worthy forces for change in our world. They are a foundation whose purpose is to look ahead towards the future, giving the past its due by remembering where we came from, and how much we can all accomplish together.
Books and Blocks @ the Library encourages participants through imaginative play by role-playing and creative play, and offers Nueces County youth, especially those from low income families, toys they may not have access to. The program will raise awareness in the county that the library is not just a place for books, but rather that the library offers a wide array of programs that engage and educate youth to become lifelong learners.

The grant request totals $19,500 with no match required. If awarded, the grant will be used to create two different book clubs: the American Girls Club and the LEGO Blocks Club. $9,000 in supplies will be needed for the American Girls Club and $10,000 in supplies will be needed for the LEGO Blocks Club. $500 will be expended in advertising.
