Agenda Item Description or Legislation Title
A Resolution Authorizing The City Manager To Apply For And Accept Grant Funds From The Bureau Of Justice Assistance Bulletproof Vest Partnership For The Purpose Of Purchasing Replacement Protective Body Armor.
(first reading)
Purpose and Background
The purpose of this agenda item is to apply for a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.  This grant will reimburse the City 50% of the cost of new ballistic vests.  The City has been accepting this award since 1999.  Each vest is guaranteed for 5 years, and thus the Police Division has a 5-year rotational plan in place.  This year, the Police Division will purchase 11 vests to replace expired vests or to equip new hires.  Each vest costs $798.41, and this years' total will amount to $8,782.51.  This grant will reimburse the City $4,391.26 of the overall cost.  The application window is short.  It was announced open on May 1, 2018 and will close June 12, 2018.  Due to the time limitations in applying for this grant combined with the longstanding benefits this grant has afforded the City, the Police Division requests approval immediately of this item.
