Res. 20-1391, IGA with DUSD for Internships

DISCUSSION/DECISION on approval of RESOLUTION NO. 20-1391, a Resolution of the Mayor and Council of the City of Douglas, Cochise County, Arizona, authorizing AN EXTENSION TO THE INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT between the City of Douglas and the Douglas Unified School District (DUSD) No. 27 for purposes of PROVIDING PARAMEDIC/EMT AND ANIMAL CONTROL INTERNSHIP AND EXTERNSHIP experience to High School students in the City of Douglas.
For Mayor & Council’s consideration, we are bringing forth an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) between DUSD and the City of Douglas for Douglas High School student internships.
In 2012, 2017 and earlier this year, Mayor & Council approved an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) to allow Douglas High School students in certain career training courses to commit hours at some City of Douglas work sites as part of their course requirements. These internship opportunities will be made primarily available to students at the Douglas Police and Fire Departments.
The Douglas Unified School District will provide general liability protection and such additional forms of insurance as required by the City
The last IGA lapsed in May 2019. We are submitting a new IGA approved this school year by the Douglas School District Board which will lapse in May 2022. This allows us to promote the program for our youth and serve as part of the Collaboration Goal of the City's Strategic Plan.
