COUNCIL ACTION
Motion by Councilmember Marks with a second by Councilmember Chism to approve as presented. Motion passes 6-0.
AGENDA ITEM:
Consider authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Zone Industries DBA Precision Pump System in an amount not-to-exceed $250,000 for the purchase of three vertical turbine pumps and motors for the Hampton Road Pump Station Rehabilitation Project
BACKGROUND:
The Hampton Road Pump Station Rehabilitation Project design includes the demolition of the existing pump station. The project includes a new 13.0 MGD pump station with a firm capacity of 8.6. MGD, firm capacity backup power with the addition of a new 450 KW generator with electrical improvements, and general site improvements. The new pump station will include the new pumps and motors to service these pumping requirements. This new construction is one of the Public Utilities Department's highest-ranked capital outlay priorities for the water distribution system.

Engineering design for the new Hampton Road Pump Station is nearing 90% completion and includes the full design specifications for the new pumps and motors. Project construction is anticipated to begin in early 2022. In order to remain on schedule, it is prudent to start the purchase process to acquire the three (3) 150 HP pumps along with motors that meet specifications in anticipation of long wait times from date of award to delivery. The estimated cost to purchase the pumps and motors is not-to-exceed $250,000.
FINDINGS:
These new pumps and motors are critical components of the Hampton Pump Station project and must be pre-ordered to be available and on-site at the time of installation for the contract to remain on schedule. This pre-order also guarantees the bid prices will remain firm for one year and includes freight, storage, and delivery costs.
FINANCIAL IMPACT:
The cost of the three (3) pumps and motors for the Hampton Road Pump Station will not exceed $250,000. Funding will be provided through the Public Utilities Capital Projects Fund.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the City Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Zone Industries DBA Precision Pump System in an amount not-to-exceed $250,000 for the purchase of three vertical turbine pumps and motors for the Hampton Road Pump Station Rehabilitation Project.
