The State of California has awarded the City an Office of Traffic Safety Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant for the second year in a row. The grant will reimburse up to $78,000 for personnel overtime, equipment and training costs related to STEP between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021.

STEP's goal is to reduce collisions involving alcohol, speed, and red light violations. In Cypress, the grant funds will increase DUI enforcement through checkpoints and saturation patrols as well as distracted driving, pedestrian and bicycle safety and traffic safety education.
There is no impact to the unassigned fund balance of the City's General Fund as all costs incurred related to the grant will be reimbursed by the State of California's Office of Traffic Safety.
None required.
