|On February 18, 2003, the City entered into an agreement for City Attorney services with Aleshire & Wynder, LLP. Since that date, three amendments have been approved by the City Council, the first was to restate the agreement in 2006, the second in 2008 for rate adjustments for legal services and the third in 2014 to appoint Anthony Taylor to serve as City Attorney following the prior City Attorney’s two-year leave of absence.
The current amendment is to consider the assignment of Fred Galante to serve as City Attorney given his experience and background on land use matters.
Anthony Taylor has served Cypress as its primary litigation counsel for nearly 20 years. Mr. Taylor has also served as the primary City Attorney for nearly six years for Aleshire & Wynder LLP. Mr. Taylor has respectfully requested that the City Council allow him to step back into his prior role for Cypress as the primary litigation counsel rather than in the dual capacity as both the primary litigation counsel and the primary City Attorney.
Fred Galante, a founding partner of Aleshire & Wynder LLP, is proposed as the new primary City Attorney. Mr. Galante has been practicing law for 25 years and has served as City Attorney for various cities. He has negotiated and structured various complex land use projects and is well versed in general municipal law. He has regularly presented lectures on the Brown Act and Conflicts of Interest. He currently serves as City Attorney for the City of Chino, General Counsel to the Orange County Council of Governments, and has the capacity to spend the time required to address the needs of the City of Cypress.
Anthony Taylor will continue to handle City litigation matters and assist as needed to assure a smooth transition.
