Mobility Hubs Status Update and Future Funding Program
Mobility Hubs are an innovative way for municipalities to create activity centers to accommodate current and future transit riders and provide a focal point in the transportation network. The Mobility Hubs program was first introduced and defined in the MPO's 2035 Long Range Transportation Plan as transit access points with frequent transit service, high development potential and a critical point for trip generation or transfers within the transit system. The following is an update on existing Mobility Hub projects and an introduction to the Mobility Hubs funding program as part of the 2045 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP):
The Broward MPO currently has seven Mobility Hub projects in process:
The Downtown Fort Lauderdale Mobility Hub at Broward Boulevard and Andrews Avenue, which is currently scheduled for groundbreaking in late summer 2019 with completion targeted for May 2020.
The Cypress Creek Mobility Hub improvements are slated for funding in fiscal year 2024.
The Hollywood Boulevard/State Road 7 Mobility Hub is approaching the 30% Design stage.
Four locations are currently in the planning stages: Pembroke Pines City Center, Midtown Plantation, Sunrise, and Coral Springs.
The 2045 MTP proposes a funding program for member governments to work with the MPO to focus on Mobility Hubs. Staff will propose a competitive process similar to the existing Complete Streets and other Localized Initiatives Program (CSLIP), in which member governments can apply for funding for eligible costs related to mobility, safety, and placemaking. Additionally, the MPO will offer planning assistance for member governments to coordinate with various stakeholders in locations with complex planning issues and/or joint development opportunities.
At the upcoming meeting, staff will provide a presentation with additional details on the Mobility Hubs program. For the PowerPoint presentation, please see the Attachment. Questions and comments will be addressed at the meeting.
