Alamo Senior Advisory Committee
Outreach Subcommitte Report
Heather Armstrong, Staff Liaison
Maria Wilson, Staff Liaison
Outreach was given the mandate to deliver Day Summits for 2018; one each for Atascosa County, Kerr County and Comal County. The Committee decided to try to add a fourth Summit to the south in Frio County if a venue and date can be decided on.
So far, May 18
to celebrate Older American Month in Pleasanton and August 21
to celebrate National Senior Citizen Day in Kerrville have been selected. We are looking for a date and place in Comal County and Frio County. We will contact Darryl at the CRRC in Canyon Lake and Sara Pichardo in Pearsall about helping us get the venues we need, set dates, etc.
Day Summit will be 3 hours long. They will consist of three sessions:
Ginny Funk of the Alzheimer’s Association will present Healthy Living for your Brain and Body.
An AACOG staffer and a lawyer will present Crossroads in Decision Making: MERP, TODD and Asset (Preservation) Planning.
USDA Program will present on home repair (grants and low interest loans) loans, food, etc. grants.
Vendors will be approached to have vendor tables at the Day Summits. The vendor fee will be either (door) gift prizes or food for the Day Summit.
Venue will be a large room with speakers and chairs for 25 – 40 participants. Vendor tables will be kept in the back of the room.
Materials needed: Flyers, vendor forms, handouts, (sign in sheets for vendors and participants) etc.
Media: AACOG social media, local media and community centers will be contacted.
