2017 PRIORITY GOAL:
The Family Caregiver Subcommittee’s 2017 Priority Goal is to address Caregiver Needs through Education and Training and Community Outreach to include Faith-Based Communities.
TOPICS DISCUSSED:

Phillip Walker was honored by the group for his service as Chair with a plaque and gift.

Dianne M. Teran, Caregiver Support Specialist provided an update on the Bexar Aging Family Caregiver Support Program. The Group was informed of the arrival of Philip Jones as the new Bexar Aging Manager. Services are ongoing for both the Access and Assistance and Caregiver Programs.

They were informed that the staff and partners are working on the 2018 scheduled for Powerful Tools and Stress-Busting Programs for Family Caregivers and they will be provided the dates and locations when the information is confirmed.

They were also informed that the AACOG offices will be closed Thursday November 23rd and Friday November 24th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Final preparations and details were confirmed for the Presentation of Caregiving and Family Dynamics by Dr. Yvonne Lozano on November 28, 2017 at the Village at Incarnate Word CHRISTUS Heritage Hall from 6 to 8pm.

Helen Flores with Caring Companions presented to the group the opportunity to sponsor a Community Workshop for the 2018 calendar year with Naomi Feil, creator of Validation Therapy. Her work is widely used for Caregivers and professionals caring for Alzheimer's patients and she is both nationally and internationally recognized for her work. The group was very receptive and agreed to look into having her come to San Antonio for a free workshop for Family Caregivers. Helen reported that she has a sponsor for her fees and the group began to discuss possible locations. Helen will present possible dates for 2018 to her and follow up with the group at the next meeting.

Members shared upcoming events and updates with their respective programs/services to include a presentation of Caregiving Around the Clock on November 15, 2017 sponsored by the Hispanic Outreach Committee at St. Paul Community Center from 10:00am to noon.

Members have given some feedback at looking at a more streamlined way to communicate all the events the members are involved in as well as those the Coalition will be involved with and further discussion will come.

The Group has agreed to meet informally on December 19, 2017 at the same meeting date and time to gather one last time before the end of the year and for the Holidays. Location to be determined.
