Receive, consider and act upon sponsorship of a Veterans Day event by The Woodlands Township;
Not to exceed $10,000
The Woodlands Township, along with local, state and federal elected officials, proposes holding a special celebration to honor military veterans of The Woodlands at a Veterans Day event on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 1:30 p.m.
Last year, the event featured special remarks from Chairman Bruce Tough, Congressman Kevin Brady, State Representative Steve Toth and County Commissioner James Noack. The Goldenaires Senior Adult Choir also provided patriotic medleys as entertainment. The event concluded with a presentation of
The Way Home
Sculpture by the Greater Woodlands Public Art Foundation. A commemorative coin was given to those in attendance to mark the occasion.
This year, the event would continue to pay tribute to military veterans who have returned home to The Woodlands recently, as well as those who have served our country in years past. The Veterans Day event would honor all branches of service and recognize their sacrifices made while serving the United States of America, home and abroad. The planning team would like to redesign the commemorative coin to give to those in attendance, in the hope this would become a traditional take away for The Woodlands Veterans Day event in the years to come.
Through a public relations campaign the planning committee will actively seek veterans who have recently returned home to The Woodlands. If you know someone the committee should include, please contact Cameron Clay (
Approve Veterans Day event and authorize Township staff to produce the event.
