BACKGROUND:
PROPOSED PLANS:
The planning team has analyzed a number of different ways to celebrate the anniversary and involve the entire community. The following proposed agenda integrates ideas from those at The Woodlands Township, The Woodlands CVB, The Woodlands Development Company and other community-wide organizations. The planning team proposes a 2-day event taking place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 and Sunday, October 19, 2014 with a budget not to exceed $50,000 for both days combined.

The Saturday, October 18, 2014 event is proposed to be located at Rob Fleming Park from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with the focus on “The Future of The Woodlands,” and the children who are the base of that future. The event theme of a “Birthday Party” will allow children of all ages to understand what an exciting and monumental time this is for The Woodlands, Texas. All performances will be from local children’s performance groups featuring dance, instrumental and vocal talents. Hot dogs, the trimmings and other assorted items will be provided for attendees. Please see detailed proposed agenda attached.

Additionally, the planning team has asked Because Art Matters for a Student Art Project for local schools to get involved. With two entry categories and three age groups, all students can be involved thru creative writing or 2-d art. The Student Art Project winners will be announced at the Saturday event and all entries will be displayed at the event.

The planning team proposes the Sunday, October 19, 2014 event to be located at Northshore Park in conjunction with the scheduled Concert in the Park from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. To culminate the 40th Anniversary program the planning team would like to feature various elected officials, Hometown Heroes, showcase local businesses as well as provide live music from a local entertainer. Programming will also include the official creation of Founder’s Day through Proclamation. Hamburgers, hot dogs, the trimmings and other assorted items will be provided for attendees.  The evening will end with celebratory fireworks show. Please see detailed proposed agenda attached.

FUNDING:
All 40th Anniversary activities will be funded through The Woodlands Township and corporate sponsorships. The Woodlands Development Company has pledged $20,000 towards the event.
