Receive, consider and act upon a proclamation in support of International Walk to School Month;
There is no budget impact related to this proclamation. The Walk to School program is funded in the Environmental Services programs budget.
The Woodlands piloted this international program with one elementary school in 2002. Walk to School promotes clean air, healthy kids and families, a sense of community and safe use of the community's  bike paths, exemplifying our community values. For 14 years, The Woodlands has been among the top two Texas communities with the most schools registered for the event. The October program is organized and coordinated by the Township’s Environmental Services Department with support from the Parks and Recreation and Neighborhood Services Departments, Conroe ISD Police and Harris County Constable’s Department.
