Meeting Date: 03/23/2016

SUBJECT MATTER:
Receive, consider and act upon a proclamation in support of Earth Day;
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact related to this Proclamation.
BACKGROUND:
The Environmental Services Department of The Woodlands Township is producing the fifth annual Earth Day GreenUp community stewardship project on April 9, 2016. The event will focus on the removal of trash and litter throughout the community by hundreds of volunteers. The event will connect neighbors and the outdoors by participating in cleanup crews bagging trash from streets, pathways and streams.

Individuals, clubs, scouts, neighborhoods, businesses, places of worship and schools are encouraged to participate and early registration is encouraged, especially for groups. Schools can register for a one day campus clean-up.

Volunteers will check in at a designated park in each village between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. They will pick up supplies and a map to clean-up sites. Following the clean-up everyone is invited to celebrate at the post-pick-up party at Northshore Park from 11:00 a.m.to 1:30 p.m. There will be refreshments, fun, and T-shirts and free pizza for GreenUp participants. Pizza will also be sold.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended to proclaim Saturday, April 9, 2016, as “The Woodlands Earth Day Community Stewardship Project and Celebration” and to proclaim April 2016, as “Earth Month” in The Woodlands, Texas.
