Receive, consider and act upon an update regarding the Harris County Appraisal District election;
The Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) Board of Directors is comprised of six members, one of which is appointed through a nomination and election process by all of the conservation and reclamation districts located in Harris County. Each conservation and reclamation district has the ability to nominate a single candidate for the position. Nominations are made through adoption of a resolution by the governing body of the district, and the name of the nominee must be submitted to the Chief Appraiser no later than October 15, 2015, along with a certified copy of the resolution. The Chief Appraiser then prepares a ballot listing the nominees, which is sent to each voting district. Each district is entitled to cast a single vote, and the candidate receiving the most votes is elected to a two year term.
Through The Woodlands Township’s enabling legislation, The Township is treated as a conservation and reclamation district to be able to participate in the HCAD director nomination and election process.
In August, the Board directed staff to contact the Creekside Park Village Association to determine interest in having the Township Board nominate a Creekside Park (Harris County) resident as a candidate for election to HCAD representing Conservation and Reclamation Districts. The Creekside Park Village Association discussed this matter at its September 1, 2015 meeting. One resident expressed interest, but declined after further consideration. At this time, there is no recommendation from the Creekside Park Village Association regarding a nomination.
