Receive, consider and act upon revisions to the 2015 Board of Directors meeting schedule;
Two changes are proposed to the 2015 Board Of Directors meeting schedule: Cancel the September 1 meeting and move the November 17 meeting to November 16.
When the Township Board adopted the meeting schedule in January, the Budget meeting schedule included all dates that may be needed in the event that public hearings were required due to Truth in Taxation law. These public hearings would have been held on the regular August board meeting dates and a special meeting to adopt a rate would have been held on September 1. At that time, the Board reserved the right to adopt the tax rate at one of its regular August Board meetings if the public hearings were not required. Earlier this month, the Board adopted a preliminary tax rate that did not require public hearings, and the public hearings were canceled. The Board is scheduled to adopt the tax rate at the August 26 meeting, so the September 1 meeting is no longer needed and should be canceled.
In November, the Board must canvass election results within a defined period. Based on our recent history of contracting with both counties for November election services, a meeting to canvass the results was scheduled for November 17, 2015, at 4 p.m., as the last day of the canvassing period. Staff recently learned that the deadline to canvass the results is November 16, one day earlier than the meeting was originally scheduled. The meeting to canvass election results will need to be moved to the 16th in order to meet statutory requirements. The new Board will be seated and elect officers at a consolidated regular November Board meeting on Wednesday, November 18 at 6 p.m.
