This project addresses the below Priority Area(s) and relates to the listed Specific Initiative(s):
Effect of Yes or No Votes:
A "yes" vote will allow the Town to enter into agreements with Southwest Public Power Agency to replace power currently purchased through a transmission agreement with Arizona Public Service.
A "no" vote will require the Town to pursue other options such as our own transmission system to replace what is currently handled through Arizona Public Services.
Consider Resolution No. 2275, Approving a Membership in the Southwest Public Power Agency (SPPA), the Southwest Public Power Agency Pool and the Arizona Public Power Transmission Project and Resolution No. 2276, Appointing the Board Designee
- Stephanie Wojcik, Finance & Technology Director
Currently, we have an agreement with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the transmissions of power to our electric customers. APS has notified us they do not want to renew this agreement. This decision does not just apply to us as APS is going in a new direction of how they work with all entities.
Both our electric attorney Michael Curtis PLLC along with K.R. Saline & Associates which is the firm we use for handling our wheeling agree becoming a member of the Southwest Public Power Agency (SPPA) is our best option. Membership does include a seat on the Board of Directors with a one time initiation fee of $2,500. The designee for the Board will be the Town Manager with the Finance Director as the alternate.
Additionally, entering into an agreement with the SPPA Pool and the Arizona Public Power Transmission Project should be cost effective for us in meeting our electric customer power needs.
I move to approve Resolution No. 2275, approving a membership in the Southwest Public Power Agency (SPPA), the Southwest Public Power Agency Pool and the Arizona Public Power Transmission Project and Resolution No. 2276, appointing the Board Designee.
