  Item No. 24.
Meeting Date: 08/12/2021
COMMITTEE: Finance
CONTACT: Juan Fuentes CHAIR: Jason Perry

ACTION REQUESTED:
Consider approval for a capital expenditure in the amount of the net (after insurance  reimbursement) of $552,410.12 required to purchase a new Caterpillar 623K Scraper. (Perry/Hicks)
BACKGROUND:
Initiated by: Becky Hicks

On April 16, 2021, Unit #350, a Caterpillar model 623 Scraper was involved in a rollover accident at the Landfill. After the unit was recovered, it was sent to a Wagner Equipment location in El Paso for evaluation. During the evaluation, Wagner determined that the cab would no longer be able to be certified and the other damages to the unit were too extensive to be repaired.

According to the Safety Officer, Kathy Louer, our insurance investigator has submitted paperwork to the New Mexico Self-Insurer’s Fund recommending payment in the amount of $355,000.00. The deductible has already been met.

Wagner Equipment has quoted a new Caterpillar 623K Scraper for $907,410.12.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION
The FY2022 budget does not contain funding for a new scraper. The difference between the quoted new equipment and the insurance reimbursement is $552,410.12. This amount will need to be a budget amendment from the Solid Waste Fund FY2022 ending cash balance of $5,936,273.
LEGAL REVIEW:
No legal review is required at this time.
BOARD AND COMMITTEE ACTION:
The Finance Committee recommended (3-0) approval at their meeting on August 5, 2021.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Consider approval for a capital expenditure in the amount of the net (after insurance  reimbursement) of $552,410.12 required to purchase a new Caterpillar 623K Scraper.
