ACTION REQUESTED:
Proposed Ordinance 21-03 - Consider approval to advertise and hold a public hearing on Proposed Ordinance 21-03 requiring Intergovernmental Agreements for mutual aid. (Stubbs/Patterson)
BACKGROUND:
Initiated by: Joe Neeb 
 
The City provides public services to surrounding communities in and around Chaves County, including law enforcement, fire and emergency services, and benefits in turn from similar services provided by the County, nearby municipalities, the State, and the Federal government. The purpose of the proposed ordinance would be to establish a procedure for the City to enter into intergovernmental agreements with other governmental entities to reimburse costs and assign risk for such mutual aid.  
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATION
Under the proposed ordinance, the City would seek reimbursement from surrounding sovereignties for expenses incurred and reimburse them in turn for services. 
LEGAL REVIEW:
The City Attorney has reviewed the proposed ordinance.
 
Ordnances require approval by a majority of the City Council.
BOARD AND COMMITTEE ACTION:
The Legal Committee recommended (3-0) approval at their meeting on March 25, 2021.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Consider approval to advertise and hold a public hearing on Proposed Ordinance 21-03 requiring Intergovernmental Agreements for mutual aid.
