Consider approval of the purchase of a new fire engine via Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) pricing agreement. (Grant/Graham)
The fire engine to be replaced is a 1989 Pierce that was identified for replacement on the city’s fleet management and replacement plan. The new apparatus will be assigned to Station 6 and the current engine placed in reserve status.
The cost to purchase and outfit the apparatus is $520,000.00. The funds are a combination of New Mexico State Fire Protection Grant (420,000.00) and New Mexico Fire Grant Council ($100,000.00).The fire department has carried over fire protection grant funding for several years, anticipating the replacement of this apparatus.
The Houston Galveston Area Council pricing agreement is a cooperative purchasing program that the City has utilized historically over the years. This pricing agreement is established through a competitive bid process.
The City Attorney has reviewed and approved of the purchase of this apparatus in this manner.
BOARD AND COMMITTEE ACTION:
The Finance Committee recommended approval (4-0) at their meeting on March 7, 2019.
