AGENDA ITEM DESCRIPTION OR LEGISLATION TITLE
Proposed Resolution supporting the efforts to amend the US Constitution to free democracy from corporate control by calling upon our legislatures at the state and federal levels to join in the move to amend to establish that money is not speech and the regulation of political contributions and spending is not equivalent to limiting political speech, etc.
PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND:
Councilman Lucente has provided similar resolutions passed by the cities of Lakewood, Oberlin and Barberton all urging state and federal legislators to join other communities and jurisdictions to support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would abolish corporate personhood and abolish the doctrine of speech as money.
RECOMMENDATION TO COUNCIL:
Lorain City Council consider passage of the resolution.
