Presentation of the FY2016-2017 Distinguished Budget Award.
On May 4, 2017, the Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA) awarded the City of Casa Grande the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for excellence in governmental budgeting for the FY2016-2017 annual budget. The City was originally granted the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the FY1996-1997 annual budget and has continued to receive the award each year.
The award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, a City must publish a budget document that meets program criteria as a policy document, as a financial plan, as an operations guide, and as a communication device.
In addition to meeting these requirements, a number of improvements were made to the FY2016-2017 budget document beyond the standard improvements typically made in response to GFOA comments and critiques; including an enhanced cover, a new fund / department relationship matrix, the creation of a number of new charts and graphs throughout the document, a new budget and financial summary section, a substantial reorganization of the departmental budget section, and revision of the capital improvement section. Additionally, the budget's length was reduced by a total of 127 pages to enhance its accessibility and usability for the average reader. Staff plans to build upon these improvements in the FY2017-2018 budget document and will continue to strive for excellence in financial reporting.
