SUBJECT:

Consider Accepting Resignation and Approve Re-Appointments to the Historic Preservation Commission.

RECOMMENDATION:

Mayor Jackson recommends that Council accept the resignation of Kehinde Lawal from the Historic Preservation Commission. Additionally, Mayor Jackson recommends that Council reappoint Marge Jantz, Clara Trulove, and Joyce South to the Historic Preservation Commission with a terms to extend through August 1, 2019.

DISCUSSION:

Currently, there are four (4) board openings on the Historic Preservation Commission as a result of the expiration of current terms of the members and the resignation of Kehinde Lawal, effective October 19, 2016. Marge Jantz and Clara Trulove satisfy the requirement of "Owner or resident of a designated Historic Property, or a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places", and Joyce South who satisfies the requirement of being a "Licensed Real Estate Broker or Agent, or Licensed Contractor", are eligible for reappointment. The board openings were advertised in the local newspaper and posted at both City Hall and the Police Dispatch Center.

There remaining board opening for the Historical Preservation Commission which has stipulates the requirement of "Demonstrated significant interest in and commitment to the field of Historic Preservation, involvement in a local Historic Preservation group, employment or volunteer activity in the field of Historic Preservation, or other serious interest in the field" will be advertised. No other applications were received.
