SUBJECT:
Purchase of a 2016 Peterbilt 348 4,000 Gallon Water Truck
RECOMMENDATION:

Staff recommends that the Mayor and City Council approve the expenditure of funds for the purchase of a 2016 Peterbilt 348 4,000 gallon Water Truck from Rush Truck Center of Phoenix in an amount not to exceed $159,594.

DISCUSSION:
This truck is included in this years replacement plan as unit 649 a 2005 Freightliner M2 with 129,859 miles of service.  Maintenance costs are increasing as well as days out of service having a negative impact on the Streets operations and meets all established replacement criteria.  Staff is requesting authorization to use the Houston-Galveston Area Council contract HT06-16.  This vehicle play a vital support roll with our road grading operation maintaining our 64 lane-miles of gravel road network.  It also helps the City maintain compliance with PM-10 air quality requirements.  There is no opportunity for staff to consider this vehicle for a second life rebuild due to the condition of the vehicle.
FISCAL IMPACT:

Unit #649 Water Truck was budgeted for the FY 16/17 Approved CIP Replacement program 404-21-201-100-8502-16012 in the amount of $160,000.

ALTERNATIVES:

Deny this purchase.

Go out for bid.
